York Gets Chile This Autumn
York Gets Chile This Autumn!
A leading Winemaker from Chile is coming to York next month for a unique dinner event at The Grange Hotel in Bootham.
The Grange will welcome Ricardo Baettig, the Winemaker Director from award-winning vinery Vina Morande in Chile, who will jointly host a special Dinner with George Briffa, the hotel’s General Manager and Peter Fawcett of Field & Fawcett Wine Merchants. The Vina Morande winery was founded in 1996, with the aim of producing innovative wines of great quality, and just three months ago, Morande’s Edicion Limitada Sauvignon Blanc 2010 was included in Chile’s five best wines, and was highly praised by wine expert Jancis Robinson, wine correspondent for the Financial Times. The vines are cultivated in the Casablanca and Maipo valleys lying between Chilean capital Santiago and the Pacific.
During the Wine Dinner on Monday 10th September, different Vina Morande wines will be offered to match each course, and the menu, designed by Head Chef Jonathan Elvin comprises Crab Salad, Pan-fried Chicken with a chickpea puree and pebre dressing, and a Chocolate & Chilli mouse with coconut sorbet. Says George Briffa, “Although Chile didn’t manage to win a medal at London 2012, the country is blessed with stunning natural beauty and friendly people, and this dinner will celebrate Vina Morande’s amazing wines, just a week before Chile’s annual Independence Day”.
Tickets for the Wine Dinnare are £29.95 and are available from the hotel on tel: 01904 644744. The Grange's website can be visited at www.grangehotel.co.uk
