SIX NEW BEDROOMS AT THE GRANGE HOTEL

The AA 4 star Grange Hotel on Bootham is about to open its stunning six bedroom extension increasing its number of luxurious bedrooms from 30 to 36.

Added to the existing building on the York Minster side of the hotel, the new bedrooms compliment the hotel’s existing rooms, all of which are individually designed and full of character.

Each of the six new bedrooms is air conditioned and the décor is of the highest standard. The Grange becomes the first hotel in Yorkshire to feature 17” LCD televisions at the end of each double ended bath, while flat screen LCD televisions are to be installed in all of the hotel’s 36 bedrooms.

Says Jeremy Cassel, Managing Director of The Grange,” I am delighted to be developing the Grange whilst retaining the atmosphere and character of the original regency building. I believe that we have significantly improved the streetscape of Queen Anne’s Road while considering the environmental impact of the extension at all times.”

The Grange is one of the highest acclaimed hotels in York city centre. With two restaurants, elegant dining rooms and a wedding licence, the hotel has had a very strong local following since it opened 18 years ago.

RESTAURANTS AGAINST HUNGER - STAFF SWAP ROLES FOR CHARITY!

The Ivy Brasserie within The Grange Hotel in Bootham is the first restaurant in York to support the international charity Action Against Hunger’s campaign to raise funds through their Restaurants Against Hunger initiative.

On Sunday 10 June, staff will SWAP roles at this top city centre restaurant for the lunchtime session and donate all their tips to this worthwhile cause. Customers will also be invited to make an optional donation of £2 per person cover charge.

General Manager Amie Postings who will head up the kitchen team said "It will be a fun day for everyone so we do hope that customers old and new will come along and support us".

"Who would have thought that eating out could help provide food and safe water for families suffering from hunger and malnutrition? Well that’s exactly what happens by supporting events such as this" Amie added.

"We are delighted to have the Ivy Brasserie on board, joining the hundreds of restaurants across the UK that are inviting their customers to fight hunger simply by eating out. We are calling all restaurants throughout York to follow their lead and join Restaurants Against Hunger in 2007". Quote from Pauline Llorca, Campaign Co-ordinator for Action Against Hunger.

For further information please contact Amie Postings at the Ivy Brasserie at The Grange Hotel, 1 Clifton, York on 01904 644744 or email amie.postings@grangehotel.co.uk

130 YEARS MARRIED

Three happy couples from York celebrated a total of 130 years of marriage at The Grange Hotel in Bootham last Sunday with parties for their friends and families.

Barbara and John Cundill celebrating their Golden Wedding were married in 1955 just as commercial television was launched in the UK. And Ruby Wedding couples Rena and Tony Martin and Barbara and Tony Ayres were married ten years later in 1965, the same year that Sir Winston Churchill died and the Beatles received their MBE from Her Majesty The Queen.

They all agreed that these were halcyon days, a different world – no computers, no mobile phones and petrol just 50p a gallon!

And their secret for a long and happy partnership? “Being the best of mates” Rena added.
